If your camera will take audio-in from an external mic then you can get a wireless mic hooked up easily. I'm not an expert but the one I borrowed last year was just a transmitter that had a lapel mic hooked to a battery pack/transmitter. And the reciever that plugged into the external audio-in port on the camera.
We rigged the groom for the wedding I shot. The vows came out awesome! To the point that you can here the groom exhale when he first sees the bride.

No, no sync issue. It records the external instead of the internal and is on the same media.
No, I would not re-record. Your passion may be lost. The mic was just a thought for the future.
